The Strange Case of Finley Jayne (Sneak Peek to Steampunk Chronicles)

The Strange Case of Finley Jayne (Steampunk Chronicles, #0.5) by Kady Cross
Genres: Young Adult, Steampunk, Mystery, Science Fiction
Rating: 5 out of 5
Short reaction: Fascinating preview having tons of action right away through a young heroine!

Synopsis

Finley Jayne knows she’s not ‘normal’. Normal girls don’t lose time, or have something inside them that makes them capable of remarkably violent things. Her behavior has already cost her one job, so when she’s offered the lofty position of companion to Phoebe, a debutante recently engaged to Lord Vincent, she accepts, despite having no experience. Lord Vincent is a man of science with his automatons and inventions, but Finley is suspicious of his motives where Phoebe is concerned. She will do anything to protect her new friend, but what she discovers is even more monstrous than anything she could have imagined…

My Thoughts

The strange case of Finley Jayne is her supernatural strengths. She may not be able to control her temper sometimes but she (so far) uses this in a good way especially when protecting the people she serves or her loved ones. And in this new job, she protects her new companion, Lady Phoebe from the mad scientist/mechanic Lord Vincent and him marrying her.

The setting is in London which is a perfect lovely setting for this historical yet robotic era of automatons, mechanical horses against bright pastel ball gowns and finely cut suits of Ladies and Lords, Counts and Countesses.

I could imagine Cinder along the lines of metal and brass while Tris of Divergent with Finley’s curious mind and strength given that she’s only sixteen to knock out armed men or even mechanical inventions. Finley, even not a prodigy nor a genius is likable for her smartness and the devil inside her actually does no harm.

But this is just the start. I reckon there’s more action as the main event starts! Whew! 🙂

The First Lie (Sneak Peek to The Lying Game)

The First Lie: A Lying Game Novella by Sara Shepard
Genres: Young Adult, Mystery
Short reaction: A preview of Sutton’s first lie that both screwed and spiced everything up!
Rating: 4 out of 5

My Thoughts

Okay so I remember the movie Mean Girls from this novella and all the Miss Popularity-ranking, prank-ing, backstabbing, flirting and all lies that all flourish in high school and this concept has been used over and over again since no doubt, it’s realistic BUT like what I felt after watching the movie and teasing the girls when they finally learned their lessons, I’m still amused by The Lying Game and how it all started.

I’m even as eager everytime I watch Pretty Little Liars to find out their secrets and what’s really to believe from The Lying Game queenbees Sutton, Madeline and Charlotte behind their long list of lies now – of course, I’m never agreeing with their games and what not just to be famous! But since I found this yet another amusing flick, lo and behold as their games begin!

But wait, how can I forget Thayer?!

The Prince (Sneak Peek to The Selection)

The Prince (The Selection, #0.5) by Kiera Cass
Genres: Young Adult, Fairy Tale, Dystopia
Short reaction: This made me love Prince Maxon!
Rating: 4 out of 5

My Thoughts

It’s been a while since I read fairy/princess tales! 🙂 And it’s great when you think of the “what ifs” that it’s going to be possible. Well, we’re not in a monarchical nation but atleast hoping there’s going to be that prince charming who will be your future husband to sweep off your feet is just as breathtaking.

The Prince is a preview of the life before The Selection. Prince Maxon celebrates his 20th birthday and in due time, he will be choosing his future wife and will be the reigning king. Fair enough, I feel he’s not like most princes who just follow orders and choose. Somehow, there’s this lady who really got his attention before the event and he knew despite her not respecting him enough, she’ll top in the choices. Let’s see how it goes in the main event.

Free Four (Sneak Peek to Tobias’ POV)

Free Four: Tobias Tells the Story (Divergent, #1.1) by Veronica Roth
Genres: Young Adult, Dystopia
Short reaction: I just died of swooning over Four after reading his short points of view!
Rating: 5 out of 5

Synopsis

#1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth retells a pivotal Divergent scene (chapter 13) from Tobias’s point of view. This thirteen-page scene reveals unknown facts and fascinating details about Four’s character, his past, his own initiation, and his thoughts about new Dauntless initiate Tris Prior.

My Thoughts

Four – OMG Four I love you! 🙂 I agree it’s too short that I’m so eager to learn more from your selfless, heartwarming POV’s!

Not to mention that the knife-throwing initiation was one of my favorite scenes as well.

Life Before Legend (Sneak Peek to Legend)

Life Before Legend (Legend, #0.5) by Marie Lu
Genres: Young Adult, Dystopia
Short reaction: Great preview about Day and his life as a wanted criminal
Rating: 5 out of 5

My Thoughts

Thanks to the prequel’s first kiss at the pier and first day at Drake University. I’m now excited to discover what it is more behind the Republic, Drake University or the Legend overall that’s going to revolve around the adventures of the genius 12-year-olds Day and June! Not to mention my liking for Charlie and Metias’ appearances as well.

Hmm so exciting! Legend, here I come!
